CULTURAL DIVERSITY AWARENESS TRAINING
On Tuesday 15th January 2013, twenty two young people from Hugh J O’Boyle’s attended a cultural diversity training course in Down County Museum. The course was all day and was comprised of a variety of activities to engage the young people and to make them think about diversity. This involved looking at their own identity and their own thoughts and views of living as a young person in Northern Ireland. Also looking at diversity on a more global scale and making them realize that different cultures behave in different ways and it looked at the gestures and signs used by people from different countries and how they interact with each other.
Lunch was provided by the museum which was well received by the entire group. The facilitator made the activities very interactive using a variety of methods such as role-play, balloons and interactive videos and information. The training was very informative and gave the group a real insight into other cultures and what is acceptable and what is not. Overall I feel that they enjoyed the day and hopefully took away some positive thoughts and became more informed enabling them to make better decisions in their own future.

Brighter future anticipated for Hospitality, Catering and Retail sectors in 2013
As whole, optimism for growth across these sectors remains high for 2013. With hospitality and catering as one of DELNI’s focus areas this year, a majority of employers have stated that they do expect to see some sort of continued growth. In addition to this, 77 per cent of all those employers from across the sectors who took part in a recent survey, are indicating either that their profits will remain steady this year or, for some, they expect to see an increase in profitability.
“The increase in early bird/special offers and daily online specials over the last number of years would be an indication that people are continuing to be being led by price concerns,” says Louise Murphy, Editor of Ulster Grocer Magazine. “However, consumers are increasingly more conscious about a product’s ‘local provenance’ and will seek out retailers and restaurants which provide local produce.”
Now is the time to invest in your business or future career through investing in training. For business owners your investment will be reflected in your profits; for employees you will have the qualifications and accredited training to make sure you succeed in your career.
