Frequently asked Questions

  • Will my son/daughter get a full-time job? Around 61% of the trainees who complete the programme get taken into employment, we encourage employers to do this from the beginning, while others progress to further education and training.
  • Can my son/daughter go on to further education/university?  Yes, students can go on to further education or university.  The NVQ Level 2 is equivalent to 4 GCSE's at Grade A to C, whilst the NVQ Level 3 is equal to 2 full A'Levels.  In conjunction with other qualifications such as A'Levels NVQ's can lead to further diplomas or access courses to university.  They are not a route to university on their own.
  • Can my son/daughter change career if they are not happy? Yes, lots of young people change direction before they find the right career.  We encourage trainees to constantly think about where they are going and what they want to do.
  • Will anyone visit and support them in the workplace?  Yes.  They will be monitored regularly and should they have any problems they will be dealt with within the first few visits.
  • Do they need to have any exams?  No, under Jobskills a student will be accepted to do a National Vocational Qualification as long as they have motivation and commitment.
  • What financial help is my child entitled to?  Under the Jobskills programme they will follow a Traineeship during which everyone gets paid £40 per week plus travel.  If they progress to a Modern Apprenticeship they will enter employed status and receive a wage of up to £120 per week.
  • What qualifications will my son/daughter gain in their course?  Each course will include NVQ modules, essential Skills and technical certificates.  Individual course frameworks are available in our course listings.
